The 'Concorde' was the only super sonic airliner that was used to carry passengers in civil aviation. This airliner was the produce of the Anglo-French joint venture. With this beautiful aeroplane, one could travel from London to New York in just under 3 hours and 30 minutes.
This airliner held the record of being the safest yet the fastest machine in the world. However, there was a disastrous accident on 25th July 2000 where a Concorde plane was to travel from Paris to New York. The plane crashed within a minute of take-off killing all 109 people onboard including the 9 member crew. Investigations later confirmed that the accident was the cause of a sequence of pilot errors and not any technical failures.
During this period, British Airways and Air France decided to close down the Concorde, which was mainly due to the economic costs related to mainting the carrier. It was estimated that the costs of mainting a Concorde were 5 times that of an ordinary carrier of the same size. The Concorde flew her last journey from London's Heathrow Terminal to Manchester Airport.
The Concorde is now on a permanent exhibition at Mancheter Airport's Aviation Viewing Park, which is the least man kind could do to pay tribute to this extraordinary feat of engineering.
At the park, you can also enjoy a fully restored BEA Hawker Siddeley Trident 3B at every weekend. The tour includes a short video and an exhibit display at the rear of the carrier.
