Althorp in Northampton,
England,
UK is the final
resting place of the Princess Diana of Wales
and is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the UK.
Princess Diana lost her life on 31st August 1997 in a tragic
road accident in France. After her suspicious death, people
believed that someone special was missing from their world.
Often known as the 'People's Princess', she will always be
remembered for her style and grace. She was a living mother
and a very charming, beautiful, passionate and warm lady.
Diana was married to Prince Charles but her marraige didn't
last and she ultimately got divorced. After this stage in
her life, she spent much of her time in public interests trying
to make the world a better place to live.
Althorp has been home to the Spencer family for nearly five
hundred years. In September 1997, the House became the focus
of world attention following the tragic death of Diana, Princess
of Wales. The house is set in 450 acres of idyllic park, much
of which has remained untouched over the past.
The history of Althorp is the history of a family. The Spencers
have lived and died here for nearly five centuries, and twenty
generations.
Since the tragic death of Diana, Althorp has become a house
and park known across the world. But, before that ghastly
event, connoisseurs had heard of this most classic of English
stately homes, on account of its setting, and its contents.
As you walk round this house, you will see the accumulation
of paintings, furniture, china, and sculpture, which have
appealed to the tastes of the Spencer family over the generations.
Beyond the art, you will also notice that Althorp is very
much a home. The exterior may be forbidding, with its stark
tiling; and the park may appear to be huge and impressive;
but the inside is warm and welcoming. Down to the fact is
that one family has used this house as a home, in an unbroken
line.
