Windsor Castle

It is definitely the largest inhabited castle in the world, built by William the Conqueror in 1080.

Windsor Castle is the Queen's official residence and it is over 900 years old. You can see Queen Mary's Doll House, a huge dollhouse built with extraordinary attention to detail. You will be able to see the rooms where Charles I and many slept during their rule. If you are interested in historic and old, royal stuff, this is the place to go.

Windsor Castle is one of the Seven Wonders of Britain. If you want to find out about England, this is the place to go. The main areas you may visit inside the castle are: State Apartments, where visiting dignitaries are entertained, Queen Mary's Doll's House, the Lower Ward, where you can see the changing of the guard most days at 11.00am, St George's Chapel and the Albert Memorial Chapel.

The Queen Elizabeth even stays here for her holidays, but when she is the area where she stays is restricted. It has gold statues, shops, tours, amzing dolls houses and excellent gardens and information. When the Queen is in residence and on special days the flag flies above the Castle.

The Castle was damaged by fire in November 1992. Those areas which were damaged by fire have been beautifully restored by some of the finest british craftsmen.

Walking around the Castle is just amazing to look at, with all the garden around obviously nice and tidy you could just sit and look at it, for Adults and children both looking outside and going into the castle is something you must experience.

St George’s Chapel - This is the chapel inside the Windsor Castle walls. It is very interesting to tour. There are many Kings and Queens buried here.

Ten monarchs are buried in the Chapel - Henry VI, Edward IV, Henry VIII, Charles I, George III, George IV, William IV, Edward VII, George V and George VI. Five are in two burial vaults beneath the choir; the other five are in tombs in the Chapel, including Princess Margaret's father, King George VI, in the King George VI Memorial Chapel adjoining the north choir aisle. The Queen Mother was is buried here beside George VI.
