The Church of the Holy Rude is considered to be one of the
finest medieval buildings in Scotland. Its earliest construction
dates back to 1456. The second phase of construction was begun
during the reign of James IV; tradition has it that the King
worked alongside the masons. It still has its original medieval
oak roof held together with wooden pins (no metal nails).
It's in the center by all of the other tourist spots. Mary,
Queen of Scots, worshipped in the Holy Rude and John Knox
preached there, and James VI was crowned there.
