Swansea Market is one of the largest indoor market centres
in southern UK, the present trading centre follows in a Swansea
tradition which dates back to the Twelfth Century. Teaming
with colour, vibrancy and aroma, Swansea Market's shops and
stalls are an excellent source for local produce from fresh
seafood and flowers to jewellery, arts and Welsh souvenirs.
Almost anything can be found under the great glass roof.
Local Gower produce is well represented - including fresh
fish, vegetables, fruit and meat as well as Welsh cheeses.
There are also inedible items such as mobile phones, computers
and electrical goods and luxuries such as perfumes, lingerie,
jewellery and hair accessories. Temporary traders setting
up in the heart of the market provide seasonal variety and
additional choice.
In early October, top chefs from throughout the country descend
on the market for the annual Cockle Festival.
